Chapter 3: Come Away, Come Away!

After Wendy's parents left, the bedroom became very dark. The only sound was the breathing of the sleeping children.

The smallest star in the sky twinkled and whispered, "Now, Peter!"

A fairy flew into the children's bedroom. She was the size of a thumb. She flew around, opening and closing cupboards and drawers. She was searching for something.

Then, Peter flew into the room too, looking for the fairy. "Tinkerbell, where are you?"

Tinkerbell's language sounded like jingling little bells. She told Peter his shadow was in the drawer.

Peter opened the drawer and found his shadow. He tried to stick it back onto his feet, while the children slept. After lots of effort, the shadow would not stick.

He collapsed to the floor and cried, waking up Wendy.

"Boy, why are you crying?" Wendy looked at the strange boy who was dressed completely in leaves and plants. He looked no older than 14.

"I can't get my shadow to stick on," he cried.

Wendy had an idea! She got out of bed to get a needle and thread. She sat next to Peter and tried sewing the shadow back onto his feet. After a few minutes, it worked!

"Look how clever I am!" Peter said. He danced around the room, with his shadow stuck back on.

"I did all the work!" Wendy said, pretending to be sad.

"Well, one girl is worth more than twenty boys." Peter smiled.

They sat next to each other on the floor. Wendy was charmed by this mysterious boy.

She shuffled closer to him, 'I will now give you a kiss if you like?"

"What is a kiss?" Peter said.

"You must know what a kiss is?" Wendy's cheeks turned pink.

"I will know when you give me one," Peter held out his hand expectantly.

Wendy realized he didn't know what a kiss was. Instead, she removed her earring and gave it to him as a gift. He put it in his ear.

"Now," Peter said, his eyes twinkling, "I will give you a kiss."

Wendy pursed her lips and her heart raced. She waited for his kiss.

Instead, Peter opened his pocket and took out an acorn button. He put it in her hand.

Wendy looked at it for a moment. Then, she added it to her lucky necklace she always wore.

Tinkerbell was flying above them, jingling angrily every time Wendy got close to Peter.

"Come back with me," Peter said.

"To where?"

"A land of never ending fun. A place with waterfalls, rainforests and mermaids."

"Mermaids!" Wendy's eyes widened. "What about my parents?"

"You could be our parent! Be our mother and tuck us in at night, and read us stories."

Wendy's heart swelled. She wanted to be a mother very much. From the window, she looked down at the depressing, gray streets of London. "I'll come!"

She shook her brothers John and Michael awake. "Peter Pan is here and wants us to go with him to Neverland!" she said, excitedly. Her brothers quickly jumped out of bed and got ready.

"But how will we get there?" Wendy asked.

Then, Tinkerbell flew above and sprinkled fairy dust on them all. Peter said, "Just think happy thoughts!"

Wendy thought of her mother, Michael thought of his kite, and John of chocolate.

Slowly, the children lifted off the ground. They laughed, flying in circles around the bedroom.

Mr and Mrs Darling's taxi arrived home. Stepping out of the taxi, they looked up to see the children's bedroom filled with bright sparkles. The silhouettes of not three, but four children flew around the bedroom.

"We must hurry!" Mr Darling said. They ran inside and quietly went up the stairs to the children's bedroom, their hearts pounding.

Then, they heard a boy shout, "Let's go!"

Mr and Mrs Darling opened the bedroom door. But, they were too late — the window was wide open, and their children were gone.

Chapter 4: The Flight

The children flew across the city sky.

Peter pointed at the stars and shouted, "Second star to the right, and straight on until morning." These were the directions to Neverland but they weren't easy to follow.

At first, the children loved flying. They flew around tall buildings, and waved to the people below. Sometimes it was light outside, and sometimes it was dark.

As the journey continued, her brothers grew sleepy. Sometimes, they fell asleep in midair, falling to the ground.

"There he goes again!" Peter laughed as Michael dropped like a stone.

"Save him!" Wendy yelled. Peter always caught them moments before impact.

Finally, a shimmering island appeared below them.

Strangely, the island looked familiar to all the children, as if they'd seen it in their dreams. They saw beautiful forests, a lagoon and even a pirate ship.

Now, the sun was setting and the wind grew colder.

Flying closer to the island, they saw campfires and dark shadows moving through the trees. Strange noises came from the jungles, as well as deep tribal drums. Neverland didn't seem fun anymore. Now it felt real!

"The pirates don't want us to land," said Peter.

"Pirates?" Wendy whispered.

"Captain Hook and his crew. But I'm not afraid."

Then, a cannonball was fired at them from the pirate ship. A deafening boom! The children screamed.

They all got separated in the darkness and wind. Wendy reached out for her brothers, but they were nowhere to be seen.

"John! Michael!" Wendy called, but there was no answer.

Wendy was now alone. Then, she saw Tinkerbell's little light flickering ahead. Wendy nervously followed Tink into the unknown.

Wendy didn't know Tinkerbell was jealous of her.
