JK Rowling: Writing Harry Potter
J.K. Rowling loved writing stories. She dreamed of being an author.
While sitting on a train, she had a great idea for a book. It was about a wizard boy named Harry Potter.
However, J.K was poor and a single mother. She didn't have much time for writing. She also had depression.
Sometimes she wrote in cafés because her apartment was too cold. She wanted her daughter to stay warm. She often wrote at night after her daughter was asleep.
After five years, she finished the first Harry Potter book! J.K sent it to a publisher. They said, “No, we don’t want it.”
🧙🧙
J.K. felt sad, but she did not stop. She sent it to publishers again and again. Ten times. Twelve times. Still no. She started to lose hope. She thought, Maybe my story is not good enough.
Some publishers said the book was too long, some said it was too strange.
Then the boss of a small publisher, Bloomsbury, gave the book to his 8-year-old daughter. She absolutely loved it and wanted to read more!
Thanks to her, Bloomsbury printed Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in 1997.
The boss told JK Rowling, "By the way, you won’t earn much from children’s books! You should find another job too."
Today, Harry Potter is the world's best-selling book series, and JK Rowling is now a billionaire. The magical world of Harry Potter is loved by children and adults everywhere.
