Why The Sky Is Far Away
Long ago, the sky was very low. People could touch it with their hands.
The stars and the moon were close, and the clouds felt like soft pillows. Everyone lived happily under the low sky.
But one day, a woman cooked rice. The smoke went up and touched the sky. “Move away!” she said rudely. She hit the sky with her spoon.
Later, a man cleaned his yard. While he swept, his broom hit the sky. “You are in my way!” he said.
Some children played with a ball. They kicked the ball at the sky. They laughed while bouncing the ball against the sky again and again.
The kind sky now felt hurt.

That night, while people slept, the sky moved higher.
In the morning, people looked up. The sky was far above them. “Come back!” they cried, but the sky did not return.
They missed the low sky. They wished they had been kinder. But it was too late.
The sky never came back, but every night it sends stars to shine. To give people hope, and to remind them to be good.
