Michael loved basketball. He dreamed of joining the high school team.

At tryouts, he ran fast and jumped high. But the coach said, "Michael, you're not ready for the team yet."

Michael went home and cried. Maybe I am not good enough, he thought. But deep inside, a small voice said, Try again.

Each day, Michael worked hard. He ran in the winter cold. He stayed after school to practice until dark. He played basketball until his arms hurt.

One year later, he tried out again.
