Breathe Slowly. Feel Calm.

Want to feel better—for free?

Life can be busy. We work, study, and look at our phones all day. Often, we're stressed. But there is a simple way to feel better: take a breathing break.

A breathing break is easy.

You sit down, and close your eyes. You take slow, deep breaths.

Breathe in through your nose. Breathe out through your mouth.

Do this for five minutes. You'll feel calmer and more relaxed.

Many famous people do this. Ariana Grande, the singer, uses slow breathing to feel at peace before concerts. This helps her control her voice.

Bill Gates of Microsoft takes short breathing breaks. He says it clears his mind and gives him new ideas.

Here is one way to do it: find a quiet place. Sit on a chair, on the floor, or lie down.

Some people like to count:
Breathe in — 1, 2, 3, 4.
Hold — 1, 2.
Breathe out — 1, 2, 3, 4.
Hold — 1, 2.
Repeat.

Try it today. Set a timer for five minutes. Sit quietly and breathe. You'll feel calmer and ready for the rest of your day.

It’s free. It’s simple. And it works.

“Sometimes the most important thing in a whole day is the rest we take between two deep breaths.”— Etty Hillesum
